| I joined Super RTL’s controlling department in 2004. My first project was to set up a business plan for Toggo CleverClub, a commercial-free, subscription-based website for children. Non-advertising revenues have since become a significant income stream for the company. Today, an increasing number of business plans focus on new websites, mobile and paid content - including toni.de, an audiobook download platform.
As I gained experience in the field, I realised that cross-media can be a real challenge for a company. On the other hand, unsold airtime is one of the greatest incentives to come up with new business activities. Super RTL encouraged me to pursue these thoughts in a doctoral thesis on cross-media management.
After 2 ½ years I was promoted to head of controlling, responsible for coordinating all budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes within the company and towards the shareholders. Although I find that providing financial information to the management is a very interesting task, I never wanted to end up being “just a numbers cruncher” since I have always been interested in the business behind the numbers. With this goal in mind, I jumped at the opportunity to serve as the main contact within Super RTL for advertising windows in Austria and Switzerland. Here, I was able to expand my skills in sales and marketing activities, such as pricing. Having such a wide range of duties makes my job truly interesting on a number of levels.
