RTL Group companies win 13 German TV Awards
The German TV Awards were presented on Saturday 11 October. RTL Group companies
went home with 13 of the prestigious awards.

RTL Television alone scored nine of the trophies. The nine award judges picked Doctor’s Diary – Männer sind die beste Medizin as Best Series. After a successful first season, a second season of the series is already in the works. Deutschland sucht den Superstar won the award for Best Show for its motto shows. RTL Television productions also won awards for Best Reality Show, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Camera, Best Editing and Best Production Design.

RTL CEO Anke Schäferkordt comments: “I’m thrilled about the numerous awards scored by RTL productions at this year’s German TV Awards. For everyone involved in front of and behind the camera, for our producers and our editors, the awards are a well-earned acknowledgment of their achievements.” The fact that RTL Television won the three important categories Best Series, Best Show and Best Reality is evidence for the wide spectrum of the programming of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. After Doctor’s Diary was the most popular launch of a series produced in-house in a long time, Schäferkordt was all the more delighted that it was honoured by the independent award judges as well: “We are also very pleased the judges acknowledged that Deutschland sucht den Superstar has set new standards with its motto shows. The prize given to Die Ausreißer – der Weg zurück honours a programme that dares to deal with a topic which is extremely relevant and at the same time very moving: teens on the fringes of society. It is an unfamiliar but very enjoyable feeling for us that RTL Television tops the list of awards so clearly this year.”

On the production side, companies in the UFA group won six awards, including Grundy Light Entertainment’s joint award with RTL Television for Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Programmes from UFA Fernsehproduktion took home trophies for Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Soundtrack. Michael Gwisdek received the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Teamworx
production Das Wunder von Berlin (The Miracle of Berlin).

RTL, ARD, ZDF and Sat 1 have jointly presented the German TV Awards annually since 1999, to honour outstanding achievements in the TV realm. The award is considered the foremost mark of respect for TV professionals in Germany. The German TV Awards were presented on Saturday 11 October 2008 at the
Coloneum in Cologne, in a ceremony moderated by Thomas Gottschalk. This year, the awards ceremony was broadcast by ZDF.
