Grupo Antena 3 is test-launching its third digital channel on 2 August. Called Nitro, the new channel takes up its regular operation from 23 August, and caters primarily to men aged 35 to 55.

RTL Group sells Five Group (“Five”) to the Northern & Shell company owned by British publisher Richard Desmond.

RTL Radio Deutschland is stocking up its current 36 per cent holding in the station to 49.9 per cent, the maximum currently allowed under Lower Saxon media law. This further enhances its position as the station’s largest single shareholder.

FremantleMedia buys a further 25 per cent stake of production company Blu, taking its ownership to 100 per cent.

RTL Group and Dimitris Contominas, owner of Alpha Media Group, have closed their deal of RTL Group’s acquisition of a 66.6 per cent majority stake in Alpha Media Group, bringing in the TV channels Alpha TV and Cosmos TV as well as the radio stations Alpha Radio and Palmos.

The Belgian TV channel Plug TV is renamed as Plug RTL.

RTL Interactive sells RTL Shop to Aurelius, a Munich based industrial holding.

Groupe M6 launches Girondins TV, a TV channel dedicated to the football club Girondins de Bordeaux. Girondins TV is available on Orange TV and ADSL.

RTL Nederland launches the first news channel for mobile phones: RTL 24.

Groupe M6, through its subsidiary M6 Web, completes the full acquisition of the Cyréalis group. The acquisition makes M6 Web one of the leading internet platforms in France, thus strengthening the market position of the advertising sales unit M6 Publicité. The main activities of Cyréalis include three editorial websites, clubic.com (high technology), jeuxvideo.fr (video games) and neteco.fr (e-business) plus achetezfacile.com, a price comparison site.

RTL Group re-establishes the marketing agency UFA Sports. UFA Sports has its headquarters in Hamburg and is mainly active in international marketing of media rights to sports events.

RTL Interactive acquires a 49 per cent stake in the internet platform Wer kennt wen, one of the fastest growing social networks in Germany.

RTL Group and FremantleMedia jointly launch a new German film studio project via its German subsidiary UFA called UFA Cinema.
